At Sahlman Seafoods of Nicaragua we are committed with assisting in the growth of the community that surrounds us and we have created several programs that benefit our communities. Our community programs focus on education, health and community security.

Education

Under Sahlman Seafoods’s umbrella we have two sponsored elementary schools: Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba in Buena Vista (school that serves the community by our farm) and Diviño Niño de Jesus located near our processing plant.

At Escuela Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba we celebrate their annual 6th grade graduation ceremony. We also give a scholarship to the best student of the graduating class so that he or she can continue their high school education in El Viejo, Chinandega. This school has also received aid from Sahlman Seafoods of Nicaragua when it comes to its buildings, sports area, water well and we continue our dedication to create a better school for the local community. With the help of our environmental department we have a waste management program effective at the school. The students also receive environmental awareness and conservation lessons.

In 2011, Sahlman Seafoods has focused on promoting lower elementary education at Escuela Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba. The preschool students received school uniforms and a new redesigned classroom.

The parish of El Divino Niño de Jesus receives Sahlman Seafoods’ continuous sponsorship. Every Saturday 200 children from around the church receive faith education and a nutritious lunch, sponsored by Sahlman. The school of El Divino Nino de Jesus, which is part of the parish, has been benefited with the construction of restrooms for boys and girls, promoting hygiene practices among the community. Sahlman Seafoods of Nicaragua also provides maintenance to the schools equipment, such as chalkboards.

Health

Sahlman Seafoods of Nicaragua has always supported the health post near the area of the farm. Centro de Salud del Congo was rehabilitated and has received electrical power thanks to Sahlman Seafoods. This recent donation of the electrical power installation takes the post to another level, now they have nebulizers available to treat respiratory problems and a refrigerator that allows vaccination and other refrigerated medications available to the community. In 2010 Sahlman Seafoods of Nicaragua was one of the shrimp companies that joined forces to build a new health post: Centro de Salud de San Remigio.

Health

Year after year Sahlman Seafoods of Nicaragua has been active in partnering with local organizations that provide security to the community. We support the local firefighters, police corps, red cross, navy and other organizations that take care of our community.
